How AI-Assisted CCTV Helped K4 Make Faster Security Decisions at Priory Festival
Priory Festival welcomed 1,800 attendees, with 1,100 people on site at its busiest point.
Managing an event of that size requires a clear view of what is happening across the venue. Security teams need to protect the perimeter, support entry points and respond quickly when an incident develops, without drawing officers away from areas where they are still needed.
For Priory Festival, K4 Group deployed two rapid-deployment CCTV towers, eight AI-enabled cameras and a dedicated control room. The aim was to improve visibility across the site and give officers clearer information before they responded.
Festival organiser Nicky Barclay described the difference as immediate:
“It was a bit of a game changer, really, because the response from the cameras is so quick to the control room and then to the team on the ground.”
Learning From the Previous Festival
Lessons from the previous year shaped the deployment.
There had been challenges around perimeter access, with gaps in visibility near fencing and access points. The layout of the site also meant officers could be sent to investigate activity without having a complete picture of what was happening.
A situation could appear serious from a distance and lead to several officers being moved from important positions, only for it to turn out to be harmless.
Nicky explained:
“The guys weren’t having to run around chasing shadows. It makes the deployment of staff so much more effective. You can home in on something to make a decision as to whether it’s something that needs acting on.”
Before officers were deployed, the control room could review the live footage, zoom in and assess the situation.
Building a Clearer Picture
The two CCTV towers were installed in under an hour and provided live coverage across key parts of the venue.
Footage was streamed directly to the control room, where operators could review activity as the festival took place. The AI-assisted cameras highlighted activity that required attention, helping the operator locate and assess relevant footage more quickly.

Our officers could then respond with a much clearer understanding of the situation and support the best possible experience for everyone attending.”
From Alert to Action
The system supported the team during several situations across the site.
At the rear perimeter, activity was flagged beneath the fencing. The control room reviewed the footage and identified people entering a restricted area to retrieve items from the neighbouring play zone.
A response team attended, explained the risks involved, recovered the items safely and prevented further access.
The monitoring system also highlighted pressure at an entrance, where a large group was attempting to enter with their own food. The control room reviewed the situation and sent response officers to support the gate team.
Later footage showed that access was under control and the atmosphere had settled.
These examples demonstrated how live information could help the team respond while a situation was still manageable.
The technology handled much of the initial monitoring and analysis, allowing officers to focus on the situation in front of them and respond with better information.
Security That Felt Part of the Festival
The technology played an important role, but Nicky also highlighted the way K4’s officers worked with the wider festival team.
For an event organiser, security needs to support the atmosphere of the day. Officers must be approachable and able to communicate well with attendees while still being ready to make firm decisions when required.
Nicky said:
“What impressed me most about working with K4 was the warmth of the team. It does feel like a big family and it makes them feel like part of your own family on the site. That’s really important for a festival: to have the buy-in from the people working at the festival into what you’re trying to achieve.”
He felt the officers understood the type of event Priory Festival wanted to create:
“The whole festival approach was right. It was friendly, it was warm, but at the same time it was strong enough to make important decisions.”
The security team remained visible and effective without feeling separate from the event itself.
The Results
The deployment supported a security operation that included:
- 16 SIA-licensed security officers
- 4 response officers
- 1 supervisor
- 1 manager
- 1 CCTV control room operator
- 1 dog handler
During the event, the recorded results included:
- An average response time of three minutes
- No medical incidents
- No requests for police support
- Two items of lost property returned
- Twelve hours of recorded footage
The operation also produced information that could be reviewed after the festival. This gave K4 and the organiser a clearer basis for future planning, including camera placement, fencing and access routes.
What This Means for Event Organisers
Temporary events often have changing layouts, busy access points and limited permanent infrastructure.
Rapid-deployment CCTV can provide coverage where it is needed without requiring a fixed installation. When live footage is combined with a control room and experienced officers, event organisers gain a clearer view of what is happening across the site.
The Priory Festival deployment also showed the importance of planning the technology around the event. Camera positions, known pressure points and previous incidents all informed how the system was used.
For Nicky, the outcome was ultimately about the experience of the people attending:
“Effective security means that people were happy, safe and felt good in the festival.”
That is the clearest measure of whether an event security operation has worked. The team dealt with concerns, supported the organiser and helped create an environment where attendees could enjoy the day.
